We arrived early morning on the 7th, after our long two day voyage across the Sea of Cortez from our marina south of Loreto on the Baja. We were looking forward to the lush, tropical, humid climate, a bit different than the desert of the Baja. The highs were in the upper 80's which feels very hot when it's so humid! We spent four days exploring the the city, and really loved Old Mazatlan, with its beautiful streets, town squares, large market, and great restaurants. The Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepcion is hard to miss, it is a beautiful yellow/gold church in the center of downtown. Mazatlan is a big city, but this downtown area was most charming. We also did a hike up to a lighthouse on a steep hill overlooking the ocean called El Faro. It is a popular tourist destination and one of the highest standing lighthouses in the world at 515 feet high! It was worth the hot 30 minute hike up! Mazatlan is the home of Pacifico beer, the factory was close to this hike. The Cerveceria del Pacifico partnership was formed in 1900 by three German immigrants. Who knew? We were hoping for a tour but they no longer offer them. Of course we had a few Pacifico's during our stay! We also went to the Mercado Municipal in downtown, and it was a sight to see. It was full of vendors selling fresh produce, fish, meat, and other goods. People bustling everywhere!

Our marina was north of the city and part of a large tributary system. We explored the river ways in our dinghy. There were some impressive homes along these water ways and lots of jumping fish! We enjoyed our four days here, but now off to La Cruz. Another two day overnight trip further south!
